Bedford Town Band, formed in 1894 and is proud to use the Bedford town’s crest as its emblem.  There are three bands plus a ten piece (Decibels) which form the family of ‘band’ meaning we are able to welcome players of all standards.  Recently, we have provided tuition scheme for youngsters and in the future hope to be able to support a Youth Band. Bedford Town Band caters for advanced, experienced players and rehearses twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8.00 - 10.00pm.  The Town Band plays in the First Section of the National Brass Band grading scheme and try to enter about three contests each year.  Bedford Town Concert Brass is a non-contesting band which meets from 7.15 - 8.45pm on Monday evenings. The members of Concert Brass enjoy playing as an ensemble to make music and also the repartee with their conductor which makes for an enjoyable evening.  Decibels is a ten piece ensemble made up, in the main, from players from the Town Band.  As well as concerts, this group have performed at weddings, small parties and various functions where a full band is not practical. Bedford Town Progress Brass caters for the less experienced and those players who just enjoy playing in a group setting.  Rehearsals are on Thursdays from 7.00 - 8.00pm.  Players are aged from 8 to 80 and again there is a ‘family’ atmosphere at rehearsals.  Players within this band can take the opportunity to ‘progress’ into Concert Brass and beyond. Brass Academy there is a temporary change to our normal lessons.  Our scheme of tuition for complete beginners is now being held on Wednesday afternoons at Springfield Lower School, Orchard Street, Kempston, Bedford  MK42 7LJ   3.15pm - 4.15pm Please contact administrator@bedfordtownband.org.uk  for further details. Bedford Town Band takes the issue of child protection seriously and operates a safeguarding policy for any children and vulnerable adults who attend rehearsals and perform with the band.  All band managers and conductors have undertaken a DBS check.  The issue of safeguarding is more likely to be relevant for The Brass Academy, Progress and Concert Brass.  A copy of the Safeguarding Policy is available by clicking here. New players are always welcome in all bands. Would you like to be added to our mailing list of future events? Click here and send us your email address.
